New Forest First Aid Training and ExxonMobil Inspire 1,000 Fife Pupils — Now Calling on UK Businesses to Help Create More Mini Medics
More than 1,000 Fife schoolchildren have now learned vital life-saving skills through the Mini Medics programme, thanks to a generous £20,000 donation from ExxonMobil Fife Ethylene Plant (FEP).
Delivered by New Forest First Aid Training Ltd, the initiative has now completed 34 sessions across eight primary schools during the autumn term. Pupils aged 7–12 took part in engaging, hands-on lessons designed to build confidence and teach essential first aid knowledge.
Each session introduced children to key skills including the recovery position, CPR, how to respond to choking incidents and asthma attacks, and how to treat wounds and bleeding.
The programme reached pupils at Auchtertool Primary School, Burntisland Primary School, Dalgety Bay Primary School, Foulford Primary School, Hill of Beath Primary School, Lochgelly South Primary School, Lumphinnans Primary Community School, and St Bride’s RC Primary School.
James Osborne, Co-Founder of New Forest First Aid Training Ltd, said:
“In Scotland, there are nearly 3,800 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests every year, and only about one in ten people survive. That’s why it’s so important that children learn first aid early — because quick action and confidence with skills like CPR or using a defibrillator can make the difference between life and death.
We’re extremely grateful to ExxonMobil FEP for their generous support. Thanks to their funding, we’ve been able to give young people the confidence and knowledge to act in an emergency, whether that’s at school, at home, or in the wider community.”
Louise Gordon, Headteacher at Burntisland Primary School, added:
“We are a school that takes great pride in our community, and we’re thankful to ExxonMobil FEP for supporting Mini Medics in Fife. The children have loved the sessions and have each taken away new skills that could one day save a life. We are extremely proud of them.”
Teresa Cassar, Plant Manager at ExxonMobil FEP, said:
“Working with New Forest First Aid to deliver these sessions reflects our ongoing commitment to safety and supporting local communities. Young people must have the opportunity to learn these essential skills, which build both confidence and resilience, in the classroom and beyond.”
A Call to Action for Other Businesses
Following the success of the Fife programme, New Forest First Aid Training is now calling on other businesses across the UK to get involved. By sponsoring a Mini Medics programme in their local area, organisations can directly help children gain the knowledge and confidence to save lives, while also building stronger, safer communities.
James Osborne said:
“This initiative has shown the incredible impact that early first aid education can have. We’d love to hear from other organisations who want to make a real difference in their local communities by helping more young people become life-saving Mini Medics.
The financial commitment is flexible and can be tailored to the number of schools and pupils involved, so every business, large or small, can play a part.”
