Japan has the highest life expectancy of any major nation. In Okinawa alone, more than 50,000 people have passed their hundredth birthday. The explanation is not one thing. It is six principles, woven so deeply into daily life that most Japanese people would not think to name them separately.

On Thursday 30th April, Agent Nouveau brings those six principles to No.82, Poole Road, Westbourne, for an evening of Japanese-inspired cuisine, a live Chadō tea ceremony, and conversation guided by two people who know this culture from the inside.

THE SIX LONGEVITY PILLARS

Ikigai  ·  Shinrin-Yoku  ·  Chadō  ·  Kaizen  ·  Moai  ·  Hara Hachi Bu

Guiding the evening are Barbara Cox, nutritionist and author of Land of the Rising Lifespan, who spent a decade living in Nara, and Charlie Orr from InsideJapan Tours, the UK’s leading Japan travel specialist. Together, they will walk guests through what each of the six longevity rituals actually looks like in practice, both in Japan and at home, alongside an exploration of the extraordinary immersive travel experiences InsideJapan have to offer.

The menu is crafted by Cheryl Tio Blake, an award-winning chef who appeared on MasterChef: The Professionals and has built a celebrated reputation across the Dorset food scene for her fresh, high-quality Japanese and fusion cuisine. Sushi and drinks will be served throughout the evening, with the live Chadō tea ceremony as the centrepiece of the night.

“The evening includes sushi and drinks, a live Chadō tea ceremony demonstration, and conversation that weaves through all six longevity topics: Ikigai, Shinrin-Yoku, Chadō, Kaizen, Moai, and Hara Hachi Bu.”

This is the second in Agent Nouveau’s supper club series, following the acclaimed Mauritius evening with Beachcomber Resorts earlier in the month. The format is deliberately intimate: around ten guests, seated together, sharing food and the kind of conversation that stays with you. The space at No.82 was designed for exactly this kind of gathering.

Janine Marshall, MD at Agent Nouveau said, “If travel is about how you want to feel when you get there, this evening is about understanding why Japan has been answering that question longer, and more thoughtfully than almost anywhere else on earth.
