A Fresh New Chapter for Alum Beach Hut at Alum Chine Beach in Bournemouth

So good to have Alum Beach Hut back open,  and what a makeover! Fully reopened at the beginning of March after an extensive renovation, it’s looking super stylish, beautifully beachy, relaxed and incredibly comfortable. It feels like the perfect blend of laid-back seaside charm and grown-up coastal dining.

We couldn’t wait to try the menu… and honestly, highly recommend. There’s so much choice; seafood, grilled meats, good old-fashioned fish and chips, fresh salads, small plates, stone-baked pizzas (always a winner), children’s meals and even treats for your dogs. It’s all accompanied by an extended list of beers,  wines, cocktails, and excellent soft and non-alcoholic options. You’ll be spoilt for choice.

We started with olives (because… how can you not?), then spent far too long, in the best possible way, trying to choose from the wine list. So many tempting options! We eventually decided, but agreed we’ll simply have to return and work our way through the rest!

For starters, I chose the crab salad with heritage tomatoes, brown crab mayo and sea herbs. It was so fresh and beautifully balanced. My husband went for the salt and pepper-dusted squid with Cajun mayo, which disappeared rather quickly, so I think that tells you everything you need to know.

Main course was comfort food heaven. Beer battered fish and chips with triple-cooked chips, crushed peas and a deliciously tangy tartare sauce, absolute yum. I opted for the lamb rump with dressed bean salad, tea and salsa verde, which was perfectly cooked and packed with flavour.

We were far too stuffed for dessert (a rare occurrence!), but there’s plenty of choice if you’ve got room for a sweet treat.

The space itself is a joy. Relaxed, colourful and informal, you can choose a proper dining table, sink into a comfy chair or sofa, or perch at a barstool. It’s stylish, bright and effortlessly beachy, exactly what you want in such a stunning location.

And the setting? Simply gorgeous. Dining just moments from the sea at Alum Chine beach never disappoints.

We were greeted by personable, friendly staff who made us feel instantly welcome. As a freelance worker, I can already see myself popping in midweek with my laptop for coffee and a change of scenery,  it has that lovely buzz while still feeling calm.

If you haven’t visited since the renovation, give it a go. It’s a fabulous addition to the beach again, and we’re already planning our return.
