What happens when two twenty-somethings swap horror dating stories over a pint? You get Dirty Dating Dilemmas — a hilarious new short film that takes a brutally honest (and outrageously funny) look at the highs and lows of modern dating. The film premiered on Saturday 20th September at Everyman Cinema, King’s Road, London. The verdict from the packed audience? They laughed, they cringed, they related — and they weren’t ready for it to end.
Dreamed up in a West London pub by lifelong friends Greta Azzopardi and Vavara Theodorou, the film is a laugh-out-loud take on dating disasters that everyone in their twenties can relate to.
The story follows best friends Eva and Ruby, fresh out of uni and ready to conquer the dating scene. Armed with optimism and Aperol Spritzes, they dive into the chaos, from double dates with questionable characters and blackout nights to toe-curlingly awkward encounters with interpretive dance enthusiasts. Just when they’ve had enough, a snap decision to escape to Corfu promises paradise… until a juicy secret threatens their friendship.
The premiere kicked off with a lively introduction from the creators, followed by the screening and an open Q&A session. Lots of people asked varying questions and gained a deeper insight and perspective into the creators’ ideas and inspiration. Guests praised the duo’s ability to capture the hilarity and heartbreak of dating in your twenties, with comments like “I wasn’t ready for it to end” and “I wanted to see more”.
Greta Azzopardi said:
“It was such a successful night — people laughed, asked brilliant questions, and really connected with the film. Hearing comments like ‘I wasn’t ready for it to end’ was exactly what we were hoping for. That’s the dream!”
And there’s more where that came from. As co-writer and director, Vavara Theodorou explained:
“This is just the beginning. Greta and I are writing a brand-new 5–6 episode series in a similar vein, but we want to delve deeper and explore themes more fully. We plan to pitch it to Amazon, Netflix, the BBC… Watch this space!”
