Lewis-Manning Hospice Care Opens House Clearance Shop in Ferndown, Supporting Sustainability and Community Care
Lewis-Manning Hospice Care is excited to announce the opening of its 10th retail outlet, the House Clearance Shop, located at 44-46 Victoria Road in Ferndown. This new shop, which opened its doors on 29th January, promises to offer sustainable, preloved items at fantastic prices, with all proceeds directly supporting the hospice’s vital services.
The shop was officially launched by Deputy Lieutenant of Dorset, Jacqueline Swift, and Ferndown Mayor, Cllr Terry Cordery.
To celebrate, the local community was invited to an opening event where they could meet the team, enjoy refreshments, and browse the wide selection of bargains on offer. The store is packed with everything from furniture to homewares, providing an excellent opportunity for customers to support the charity while making a purchase that benefits both them and the environment.
Director of Retail Susan Newcombe commented, “We are thrilled to be opening our 10th shop in Ferndown, a vibrant hub at the heart of the communities we serve. This is not only an opportunity to offer even more amazing bargains, but also to highlight the important role our house clearance and recycling services play in supporting those with life-limiting illnesses and their families across Poole, Purbeck, East Dorset, Bournemouth, and West Hampshire.
“There was a real buzz at today’s event. The shop was packed and we even had queues at the till. There were lots of happy shoppers, delighted at the array of items in store.
“The shop is spacious, with plenty of storage space, and the added benefit of 20 free car parking spaces which makes shopping more convenient for our customers.”
Susan continued, “We’re incredibly proud of the impact our charity has on sustainability. Just last week alone, we sold 7,738 items, preventing them from ending up in landfill and saving an impressive 107,349.70 kg in CO2 emissions. Expanding our retail network will help us further this mission and generate much-needed funds for our services.”
DL Jacqueline Swift added, “I was thrilled to be here today and to help with the official opening. The new shop is a showpiece for the charity, a community hub where shoppers can come and find out more about hospice events, fundraising and volunteering opportunities.”
The hospice is especially grateful to the many local businesses who supported the opening, including Goadsby’s, Frettens Solicitors, Bradlea Builders, MBE Electricians, Talis Surveying, Karndean Flooring and Mauveworx.
House Clearance & Volunteering Services
The opening of the Ferndown store also highlights the hospice’s comprehensive house clearance services, which offer stress-free solutions for those moving, downsizing, or clearing out a home. Whether it’s a full or partial clearance, Lewis-Manning’s team can help, with the added bonus of offsetting the value of any preloved items against the cost of the clearance.

Volunteer Manager Lyndsey Howard concluded, “For those who want to get involved, volunteering opportunities are also available. The hospice is always looking for enthusiastic individuals to join their team and help run the 10 shops – Wimborne, Westbourne, Christchurch, Ashley Cross, Swanage, Winton, Poole, Ringwood, Ferndown and Highcliffe. We have various roles available and would recommend that anyone interested in finding out more, visits lewis-manning.org.uk/volunteer-vacancies for more details. We are proud that we currently have 112 volunteers working in retail, and they all make such a huge and much valued contribution to our charity.”
