Lewis-Manning Hospice Care is celebrating and remembering lives with a community event – ‘Candles on the Lake’ at Poole Park
Join Lewis-Manning Hospice Care at 6pm on Saturday 16th October at The Ark in Poole Park, and enjoy a spectacular floating candle display, music from local musicians and a reflective reading to remember and celebrate loved ones.
Area Fundraiser, Vicki Gray advised, “The event is free for all to join, so tell your friends, neighbours, colleagues, and family to come along to this wonderful evening.
“You can make an online donation for a candle(s) before the event, alternatively candles will be available on the night. If you would like to add a personal dedication to your candle, facilities to write your own message will be available.
“We envisage ‘Candles on the Lake’ to be a significant event in the local community calendar going forward and to take place every year in the autumn. It will be a memorable and meaningful celebration where families and friends can come together to reflect and remember loved ones, as well as seeing a beautiful display of lights to represent all of the incredible people in our community.”
“This poignant and special event will start with a reflective walk around the boating lake, followed by music from local choirs and a short reading. Lewis-Manning volunteers will then float the candles onto the lake for the magical display of lights.
“Donations will be used to fund our Bereavement and Family Support as well as other vital services, allowing us to give invaluable support to patients and their families from diagnosis of a life-limiting condition, through to end of life and bereavement.”
“We are asking people to make a suggested donation of £5 per candle and people can buy as many as they like! If three people donated this amount it could cover the cost of a one-hour telephone call or visit, providing support to a grieving family.”
Local organisations are getting involved in this fantastic event, such as charity partner LA Digital Print, who are kindly donating all the posters and flyers for the event for free, as well as Hobbycraft who are generously donating tea lights for the event, free of charge.

About Lewis-Manning Hospice Care
Lewis-Manning Hospice Care is a charity established 29 years ago, providing extraordinary care to patients and their families facing a life-limiting illness across Poole, Purbeck and East Dorset. We offer a range of free hospice care services aimed at helping people to live well through their illness, closer to home.
These include:
– Day hospices, virtual and in person
– Creative arts & wellbeing support
– Lymphoedema clinic
– Better breathing clinic
– Bereavement & family support
Every year we support nearly 500 local people and we develop new services, based on patient need and identified gaps in the area.
To do this we need to raise over £1.6m every year. Without these funds we could not exist.
Our important work increases people’s physical and social well-being, reduces isolation and loneliness, supports people to stay in their homes longer, and alleviates the huge pressures on family and carers.
